POV Adding Sashing And Corner Stones To My Quilt

Join me, Barry from Barry Quilts, as I step into the fun world of quilting and show you how I add sashing and corner stones to my latest quilt project. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just curious about the process, I’ll walk you through the rhythm of cutting, sewing, and aligning to make those gorgeous frames around each block and set those perfect little corner squares.

In this video you’ll see:

✔ My layout plan — how I match up colors and fabrics for the sashing strips

✔ Step-by-step sewing of the sashing between the blocks

✔ Placement and sewing of corner stones — those small but mighty squares in the corners!

✔ A little quilting chat: what I’m thinking about as I sew, and how retirement life (and flat caps!) fit into this quilting journey

✔ A few tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way to keep everything square, smooth, and satisfying

Why sashing & corner stones matter:

Sashing gives each patchwork block its own “picture frame,” creating structure and breathing space in a quilt. Corner stones add visual rhythm and tie everything together. I love how this technique elevates the whole quilt from “just a project” to a real art piece.

I’m Barry — a retired electrician who traded wires for fabric and found a new passion in quilting. Since retiring in 2021, I’ve enjoyed the freedom to create, travel, and share my projects on my YouTube channel, Barry Quilts. Retirement has given me the time to do what I love most — make, learn, and inspire others along the way.
